Watch the Official Trailers
Rockstar has released two official trailers so far. The first revealed Vice City and the dual protagonists; the second, captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5, showed gameplay, cutscenes and far more of the map.
Grand Theft Auto VI — Trailer 1 (December 2023)
Grand Theft Auto VI — Trailer 2 (May 2025)
Release Date: November 19, 2026
The release date is locked. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has reaffirmed November 19, 2026 multiple times, most notably during the company's fiscal year 2026 earnings call, where a projected revenue forecast was tied directly to the November launch. The date applies to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
Getting here was not a straight line. GTA 6 was originally targeted for Fall 2025. A first delay in May 2025 pushed it to May 26, 2026, and a second delay in November 2025 moved it to its final November 19 date. Rockstar paired the second delay with a rare public apology, stating the extra months would let them finish the game with the polish players expect.
Vice City draws directly from Miami's neon-soaked Art Deco districts.
Protagonists: Jason and Lucia
GTA 6 is built around two playable protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. This is the first numbered GTA to center its entire narrative on a romantic criminal partnership, with Rockstar openly drawing on the Bonnie and Clyde archetype.
Lucia Caminos makes history as the first female playable protagonist in mainline GTA history. Her official bio reveals a fighter shaped by hardship — her time in the Leonida Penitentiary, and the luck that got her out, frame the story's opening. Jason Duval is a seasoned criminal with hints of a military background (a paratrooper tattoo is visible in trailer footage), operating out of the Leonida Keys.
How character switching works
Unlike GTA V's three-character system that split attention across separate lives, GTA 6 narrows to two deeply interconnected leads. Players control both in a single-player experience, switching between them during free roam and missions. The two share a story, raising the emotional stakes far beyond anything the series has attempted.
The Map: Vice City and the State of Leonida
GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida, with Vice City — Rockstar's take on Miami — as its beating heart. Fan analysis estimates the map at roughly twice the size of GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County combined.
Rockstar has officially named six major regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. We cover these in depth in our dedicated map guide.
Gameplay Features
- Reworked combat: Refined weapon handling with heavier, more accurate gunplay and a redesigned weapon wheel.
- Realistic inventory: Following Red Dead Redemption 2's grounded approach, characters carry a limited loadout — two rifles and two pistols — with other weapons stored in vehicle trunks.
- Advanced visuals: Ray-traced lighting, strand-based hair physics, and dynamic clothing have all been shown.
- Over 200 vehicles: Cars, motorcycles, helicopters, planes and boats, many with interactive interiors.
- Expanded mechanics: Drive-by shooting from multiple positions, new stealth options, and a smarter wanted system.
Price and Pre-Orders
As of June 2026, pre-orders have not officially opened and no final price has been confirmed. Zelnick has previously pointed to a $70–$80 range for the standard edition, in line with current AAA pricing. Earlier retailer listings (including an £89.99 Xbox storefront price) were confirmed as placeholders.
Rockstar's global marketing campaign is expected to begin in summer 2026 — likely late June or early July — which is the most probable window for a third trailer, pricing details, and pre-order availability.
How to spot official information
Only the Rockstar Newswire, Rockstar's official social channels, and Take-Two investor communications count as confirmed sources. Treat leaked clips and retailer listings with caution — a viral 2026 gameplay clip was later confirmed fake.
The Bottom Line
The confirmed picture is already substantial: a dual-protagonist story with the series' first female lead, a world nearly twice the size of GTA 5, reworked combat and police systems, current-gen-only visuals, and a November 19, 2026 release. We'll keep this guide updated as Rockstar's marketing campaign reveals more.
